Frequently Asked Questions (SIA Renewal)

When should I book my Top-Up training?
The SIA recommends submitting your renewal application 4 months before expiry. This means you should book your training at least 4-5 months before your badge runs out.

What happens if I fail the Top-Up?
You cannot renew your license. You will be unable to work legally once your current badge expires. However, The West Academy offers re-sit support to help you pass.

I only work as a security guard, but I have a Door Supervisor badge. Which Top-Up do I do?
If you want to keep the Door Supervisor badge, you MUST do the Door Supervisor Top-Up. If you switch to the cheaper Security Guard Top-Up, your license will be downgraded to a Security Guard license (meaning you can no longer work in licensed premises/bars).
