What is the Level 3 Assessor (CAVA) Qualification?

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) is the only qualification that allows you to assess a learner’s occupational competence in their workplace AND vocational skills in a classroom setting. Replacing the old A1 and D32/33 awards, it is the primary requirement for becoming an NVQ Assessor or End Point Assessor (EPA).

This IS for you if:

You are an expert in your field: You have at least 3 years of experience in your sector (Construction, Health & Social Care, Beauty, IT, etc.).

Do I need a degree to be an assessor?
No. You need experience in your trade (usually Level 3 or above) and this Assessor qualification. Your work experience is your most valuable asset.

How long does it take?
Most learners complete the CAVA in 3 to 6 months. It depends on how quickly you can gather evidence from your two learners.

Can I assess any subject?
You can only assess subjects where you have “Occupational Competence.” If you are a hairdresser, you can assess hairdressing NVQs. You cannot assess a mechanic (unless you are also a qualified mechanic).
